I am currently pursuing my PhD in Geography under the Joint Doctoral Program of San Diego State University and The University of California, Santa Barbara. I have over 10 years of fieldwork experience with disaster-prone communities in Bangladesh. I rely on remote sensing, interviews, and surveys for research and want to continue my journey in a research-oriented field.
Heat waves have increased worldwide, and it is apparent that human-induced climate change is increasing the frequency, duration, and intensity of heat waves. Most of the existing literature on heat waves emphasizes urban areas; in contrast, little research exists on how people in rural areas experience heat waves. Farmers and farmworkers are one of the vulnerable groups that remain exposed to heat for long hours during the day. A combination of human health risks and crop damage could devastate farmers and agriculture-based economies. I want to understand how farmers and relevant stakeholders are experiencing heat waves and what adaptation strategies they are applying to adjust to the changing environment.
