Don Janelle's research and publications are based broadly within geography and affiliated social and behavioral sciences. Primary themes include space-time analyses of individual behavior, the time-geography of cities, the temporal-spatial ordering of social systems, locational conflict analysis in urban environments, social issues in transportation, and the consequences of transportation-communication technologies to the spatial structuring of settlement systems and socioeconomic organization.
Research associated with the Center for Spatial Studies addresses the role of spatial thinking and spatial analysis across knowledge domains, the understanding of core spatial concepts in different disciplines, and the promotion of spatial literacy in the undergraduate curriculum.
