The close proximity of the 2023 APCG conference in Ventura, CA drew a large crowd of UCSB geographers of all levels to the regional conference of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) for an opportunity to present their research. The conference began on Thursday, October 19th with field trips to downtown Ventura and the Channel Islands, presentations on Friday and Saturday, October 20th and 21st, and ended Saturday evening with many UCSB students being recognized at the awards banquet. Although it was a short weekend of paper and poster sessions, the time was packed with laughs, bonding, networking, and showing off our research. Our areas of interest covered a wide range of topics - from bikeability to wetland salinity.

Congratulations to several students who received awards:

  • Caitlyn Linehan: President's Award for an Outstanding Paper, Eugene Hoerauf Scholarship, and Travel Grant
  • Germán Silva: Geosystems Award for Best Earth Systems Student Paper, Latine American Travel Scholarship (LATS), and Travel Grant
