Rui Zhu is a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Geography. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Geography from UC Santa Barbara, a M.S. degree in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.S. degree in Information Management and Information System from Shanxi University of Finance and Economics. His current research centers on the NSF funded project - KnowWhereGraph: Enriching and Linking Cross-Domain Knowledge Graphs using Spatially-Explicit AI Technologies. Meanwhile, He is serving on the steering committee of Young and Early Geographers Taskforce in the International Geographical Union (IGU).
Rui Zhu's overarching research interests are fundamental GIS, spatial statistics, and geospatial semantics. More concretely, He combines data-driven and theory-informed approaches into Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) research to enhance our understanding of the interactions between the environment and our society.
