Dr. Jim Marston is a UC President's Fellow and a researcher at UCSB.  He holds the Ph.D. in Geography, with an Emphasis in Cognitive Science.  His interests include environmental perception, cognition, and wayfinding of persons who are blind or visually impaired, and the impact of limited vision on efficient travel behavior, activity participation, and access to environments.  He has designed surveys and interviewed many people with visual impairments to document the specific problems of gaining access in a sighted world; along with conducting various field experiments with this group.  He has been visually impaired since 1985.
