LABORATORY
SECTIONS
Labs will meet in the third floor Descartes Laboratory in Ellison Hall. Students should read all references, and expect a few of the examination questions to relate to the concepts they cover, but the bulk of the exams will cover the text and the laboratory design exercises.

  • Lab 1: Monday 6:00-8:50pm.

ASSIGNMENTS   

There will be an assignment due about every two weeks. Deadlines will be attached to the individual assignments as they are posted on the Web. Each will be graded according to a set of grading guidelines that are listed here. These will be explained in detail during the first week of classes. You can increase your grade considerably by reading and understanding exactly what is expected from you.

      1. Newspaper Map to Specs Using Illustrator. 16%
      2. Animated Choropleth Map Using Illustrator and Gifmerge. 16%
      3. Proportional Symbol Map Using Illustrator. 16%
      4. Dorling Cartograms. 16%
      5. Open Topic (Requires TA approval in short proposal). 16%

  1. Mid-Term examination. 2 problems 10%.
