Car Rental We highly recommend that
participants consider renting a vehicle while in Santa Barbara, as
this will provide the highest degree of flexibility, as well as opportunities
to tour the local area before and after the conference. Rental prices
generally start at $22/day, depending on availability. The following major
car rental companies have counters in the Santa
Barbara Airport: Several other companies are located near the Santa Barbara Airport. View the Airport's 'Services' page for more details, including local Taxi companies. Train Amtrak has scheduled service from many west coast locations to Santa Barbara. Amtrak offers student fares and other deals through their web site. If you are traveling on Amtrak, you can use a local taxi service to get to your hotel. Local taxi companies are listed on the Santa Barbara Airport Services Page. Bus The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit Division has an excellent website, with routes, schedules, maps, and customized trip planning throughout the Santa Barbara Area. Many buses stop at UCSB throughout the day. If you would like assistance planning a bus itinerary to and from the conference, our student consultant, Jim Marston, can also help plan your itinerary. Campus Parking & Campus Maps Visitors to the UCSB campus must purchase a daily parking pass at the west or east campus entrance kiosk for Thursday and Friday. Permits are required Monday - Friday between 6:30am and 5:00pm. Parking passes are $5 per day, and are good in lots marked 'C', including lots 16, 21,22,23, 27, and 30. The UCSB parking services website has more information, including a campus map showing the locations of all 'C' visitor parking lots (they are marked in yellow on the campus map). The conference venue (University Center, 'UCen' and the Mutli-Cultural Center) are shown in the south-central part of campus, a 5 minute walk from the visitor's parking lots. Sight-impaired visitors may be aided by the following experimental auditory version of the campus map. Additional maps are available at the campus entry/visitor kiosks. We will also provide a campus map in your registration packet. Ride Sharing Are you willing to provide transportation to and from campus for other conference attendees? We'll provide a ride-share sign-up at the conference registration area.
Limited Shuttle Service We will be providing a limited shuttle service once in the morning and once at night between 8 local hotels and the conference venue. These 8 hotels are displayed in bold type on our Lodging page. If you would be interested in using this service, we need you to register using the form below. This is a limited service. Please first consider a rental car and ride sharing, as this will provide the most flexibility and enjoyment of the local area. |
