Honors:
Until his retirement, Waldo held the positions of Professor of Geography and Professor of Statistics. He formulated the "first law of geography" (1970) which states: "Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related to each other". Waldo is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and an Honorary Fellow of the American Geographical Society. He has received the O. M. Miller Cartographic Medal from the American Geographical Society. 1989, the Meritorious Contributor Medallion from the AAG, the Andrew McNally Award, the ESRI Lifetime Achievement Award, and the AAG Microcompter Specialty Award.
