Honors:
Oliver is a professor in the UCSB Department of Geography and the Environmental Studies Program. He is considered one of the world's leading scientists in relating soils to ecology and Earth system science and is a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA); the award is the highest honor the Society bestows on its members. Oliver has served as the Chair of the Department since July 2006.
