An ad hoc committee of Profs Clarke, Fabrikant, and Goodchild considered the merits of all graduate students. Preference was given to students known to be continuing in the program in 02/03. Students were evaluated based on their record while in the graduate program, with respect to their progress in advancing GIScience and the application of GIS and related technologies for scientific research. Consideration was also given to activities not immediately connected with research: teaching assistance in GIS classes, GIS assistance to fellow students and faculty, and outreach.
