  Catalyst design and synthesis; the design, synthesis and characterization of new materials with an emphasis on understanding interface and nucleation chemistry; and the synthesis and study of molecular sieves and of mesoporous, electro-optic and bio-materials. Recent publications focus on the design of highly porous, high-surface-area silica and semiconductor oxides in both particulate and thin film forms.
