Register Your Host

Before you can use the network resources available within our department, you will need to register your MAC (Media Access Control) address with our computing staff. Your MAC address (not to be confused with Apple Macintosh) is a unique hardware identifier for your network interface card (NIC). Once you're registered with our systems, you can use any port within the Geography Department for your network access.

How do I find my MAC address?
If you have a Windows PC, go to Start > Run > and Type 'cmd'. This will bring up a command window. Now type 'ipconfig /all'. This will display the network adapters on your machine and the details of each. If you have a wireless card and a hardwire card, you'll see two adapters. You'll want the MAC address of the hardware adapter. In most cases, this will be called "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection", as shown below.

What is a MAC address again?
The hardware address of a device connected to a network. Every MAC address is unique: a 12-hexadecimal string of characters such as 00-13-D4-98-72-75.

Whom should I contact once I have this info?
Fill out our network address registration form.
