Who are we?

The Ellison Hall Sustainability Committee is made up of faculty, staff, and students who work and study in Ellison Hall Sustainability Committee. This includes the departments of Sociology, Communications, Political Science, Film Studies and Geography as well as ICESS.

What has the committee done?

Plastic BottleswormsEli, Nina, and RustleRecycling Waste

Established an entirely new recycling program that includes recycling of plastic bags, glossy paper and textbooks, electronic waste, and more!

Set up vermicomposting (composting with worms), and established multiple successful volunteer days.

Created over 100 turn off the light signs for the building and identified opportunities for energy savings

Received a grant from The Green Initiative Fund (http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/sustainability/tgif/) for our new Zero Waste Campaign

Also, AS Recycling awarded Geography as being the #1 Green Department on Campus for the 2006-2007. They specifically noted that Geography received the award not only for our work within the department, but for the work of the Ellison Hall Sustainability Committee.
